A $44 million partnership between the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and New York City will give city health care workers a chance for free training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine.
Mayor Eric Adams announced this partnership and opportunity for health care workers on Monday. Adams says this will be a game-changer for both medical professionals and the patients they treat, calling it the largest lifestyle medicine training rollout in the world.
The first phase will start in 20 city hospitals, including the Health + Hospitals system, before it expands.
Under the new program, each health care practitioner will get free introductory training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine, which includes therapeutic lifestyle intervention as a means to treat chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
The mayor says this latest investment will provide training for nearly 200,000 health care workers.
