UPDATE 12/8/22 @ 7 p.m.

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - It’s been about a week since a hunter discovered human remains, belonging to a woman between the ages of 30 to 50, in the Lucasville area. WSAZ’s Marlee Pinchok sat down with Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman to get an update.

Pinchok asked the sheriff if he believes the remains are those of someone who has been missing.

“Right now, we’re still in the preliminary stages. So, it appears at this time, I would think there would be foul play involved in this. I don’t know if the person has been reported missing, that we do not know,” Thoroughman said.

The sheriff says it’s unclear how long the DNA testing will take.

Three rings and a watch were also recovered from the scene, so Thoroughman says these items could help in the identification process, as well.

UPDATE 12/6/22 @ 5:50 p.m.

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - More details have been released about human remains discovered Sunday by a hunter in the Lucasville area.

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the remains are those of a woman between ages 30 to 50. Investigators say the woman was average height, had no upper teeth and her lower teeth had been removed recently before her death. She had an abnormal growth in the area of her right shoulder, which may have caused it to stand out differently from her other shoulder. Investigators say this was most likely from a birth defect.

The remains are thought to be less than two years old.

Sheriff David Thoroughman said more investigation is needed to determine the woman’s identity.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
