Panthers WR DJ Moore: Baker Mayfield 'pretty upset' following release

Although he didn’t do it through his results on the field, Baker Mayfield endeared himself to his Carolina Panthers teammates in 2022. So, his departure won’t be the easiest one to take for this locker room.

Wideout DJ Moore spoke with reporters on Monday afternoon following news of Mayfield’s release. The fifth-year receiver stated that the move was a tough one for the veteran quarterback, who wasn’t satisfied with how stay in Carolina went.

“Yeah, it shocked the whole locker room,” he said. “I seen him before Coach Wilks announced it. He told me he’s pretty upset, but I know better things is coming for him.”

And in case there was any mixup on the “upset” part of that statement, Moore than elaborated on his comments.

“Not upset like sad,” he added. “You know when your feelings hurt. I could see that he ain’t wanna leave. But it’s a part of the business.”

Mayfield left the Panthers with a 1-5 record over his six starts this year. The former No. 1 overall pick tossed for 1,313 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions over seven total appearances.

Hopefully for Mayfield, this part of the business will lead to more business—especially with a handful of teams currently needing help under center.
