Will Holly Return to GENERAL HOSPITAL? — Emma Samms Speaks Out!
Yes, unfortunately, Holly’s exit from Port Charles in the Nov. 30 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL means that Emma Samms’ latest run on the soap has sadly come to an end. As fans know, the actress’ return was put on hold for two years as she was suffering from Long COVID and was unable to travel from her home in England to the ABC studio until now. But she is very grateful to the soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, for being so accommodating and hopes to be able to return for another visit someday!
“Not many people would have a boss as good as he is,” Samms told Soap Opera Digest, “who genuinely made me feel that my health was more important than any show, even his show, and I’ll always be incredibly grateful for that. And that the COVID precautions are still so strong on set made me so much more relaxed. I felt extremely lucky to be in an environment that was so professional and to know that Frank is looking after his people.”
And while her stint was necessarily brief because of her health, Samms was thrilled with the storyline that the writers penned for her this time around. “It was the most fun, most exciting, most well-written [story],” she enthused. “It had all the elements — the romance, the drama. As soon as I started working, I knew that it was going to be good, but even I didn’t think it was going to be that good!”
With everyone believing that Holly has been taken to a burn clinic to recover from the injuries suffered in the explosion, she’s actually now free of Victor’s control so she can attempt to rescue her son, Ethan, from the villain. And while there are currently no plans for Holly’s comeback at this time, the door has been left wide open for her return.
“I think they’ve left it in a perfectly-positioned place for me to come back at some point,” Samms said. “I have not had any confirmation from them as to when or if I would be coming back, but the good news is that even though I am still unwell, it’s been proven that I can do it. And for me, that is very, very heartwarming to know.
“Not full-time,” she added, “because my life is here in England, but certainly, if they’ll have me, I think that would be a marvelous thing! And it means a great deal to me that the fans would like to see that, as well.”
