Petoskey celebrates the holiday season

PETOSKEY — Petoskey Mayor John Murphy said the crowds at the annual Holiday Open house on Friday, Dec. 2 was the largest of the year, eclipsing even the popular July 4 and Memorial Day parades.

Murphy introduced Santa on Friday night, and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas led the crowd in a countdown as the community Christmas tree in Pennsylvania Park was lit up for the first time this holiday season.

Santa leads the countdown as the community Christmas tree in Pennsylvania Park is lit on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022 at the annual Holiday Open House in downtown Petoskey.

Later in the evening, people visited stores throughout downtown Petoskey for special deals, refreshments and entertainment. The Petoskey Steel Drum Band performed at the intersection of Lake and Howard streets, with the downtown area closed to vehicle traffic to allow the crowds to walk around and enjoy the holiday event.
