Jeff Brohm and Purdue AD Mike Bobinski were here to talk about Purdue’s Citrus Bowl game vs. LSU. But, there was an elephant in the room that needed to be addressed after news broke Monday morning that Louisville coach Scott Satterfield was leaving to coach Cincinnati.

That set in motion speculation that Brohm was primed to take the job at Louisville, which is his alma mater and hometown.

So, has Brohm been contacted?

“No, there’s been no contact,” he said Monday morning.

Bobinski did what he could to keep the press conference focused on bowl talk, but he understood the circumstances.

“To not appear to be completely naive or brain dead, I do recognize that the world is in motion around us,” said Bobinski. “We all know that. That’s not today’s focus of conversation. There has been no anything from our side or anybody’s side at this point in time with regard to anything else. Our purpose today is to talk about our team, our upcoming bowl game and reflect on that.”

Despite that request, Brohm was pressed on the Louisville job, one he almost took after the 2018 season at Purdue.

“Well, to be quite honest with you, I know no more than you guys do,” said Brohm. “Was in some meetings this morning and got some text about Twitter. So, I found out on Twitter what was going on in the college world. But, other than that, I don’t know more information.”

Purdue (8-5 overall; 6-4 Big Ten) is coming off a 43-22 Big Ten title game loss to Michigan on Saturday night. On Sunday, it accepted a bid to play LSU in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2 in Orlando. Brohm reportedly was visiting recruits yesterday and is slated to see more today. Practice plans for the bowl—the fourth in six seasons under Brohm—soon will be drafted. But, until the Louisville job is filled, Brohm will have to deal with conjecture and speculation.

“Well, that’s college football every year this time of the year,” said Brohm. “Our team has done a good job. I think we all know that myself and our team, we want to win, we want to work hard, we want to prove people what we can get done.

“Anytime we lose, we take it personal and we try to go about finding a way to get better. And, like I said, why I love the way we competed in the last game, I wish we could have just done a little bit more in the second half to be more efficient. So, how can we figure out ways to get better at that is going to be a big goal these next couple of weeks.”

Will Brohm still be at Purdue to figure things out?
