WE’RE FOLLOWING BREAKING NEWS OUT OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI THIS MORNING. AN ELDERLY COUPLE IS OUT OF THEIR HOME AFTER A FIRE OVERNIGHT. AND NEIGHBORS CALL 911 JUST BEFORE 330 THIS MORNING WHEN THEY WOKE UP, SAW THE HOUSE WAS ON FIRE WHEN FIREFIGHTERS GOT TO THE SCENE, FIRE WAS COMING THROUGH THE ROOF. THE COUPLE DID MAKE IT OUT, WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOR THEIR HURT, BUT NOT BADLY. FIREFIGHTERS DO SAY THAT THE COUPLE LOST THEIR CAT AND CREWS ARE STIL

Crews are working to determine what caused this fire.

Investigators are working to determine what caused an early morning house fire in Kansas City, Missouri. Firefighters were called to the 9500 block of Belleview Avenue near West Bannister Road around 3:22 a.m. after neighbors called 911 to report flames coming from the roof of a home. The older couple who lived in the home made it out safely and were taken to an area hospital for observation.Sadly, several cats perished in the fire. KC Pet Project is assisting with their remains. Fire crews said the home had working smoke alarms, and that helped the couple make it out of the home safely. Officials with KCFD said if you're a Kansas City resident and you need free smoke alarms, you can call 816-513-4648.The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
