Adrian, MI – Crimson Holdings issued the following statement to WLEN News on Friday in response to a ruling by the State of Michigan 2A District Court. The ruling limits operating hours for Crimson Holding, beginning Dec. 9, 2022, and lasting until a taller stack is installed.

“We are incredibly disappointed in the court’s decision and will continue to work with our legal team, the City of Adrian and State of Michigan to come to a resolution in short order.

Over the last eight months, we have listened to feedback from the city, its residents, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDRAD). Using that feedback, we have worked diligently to address concerns and comply with requests from MDARD and EGLE in a timely manner. This has resulted in an investment of over $350,000 in new equipment and procedures to help eliminate odor concerns from the facility.

While it is our full intention to continue working with EGLE and MDARD to finalize an odor management plan and further improve upon this issue, we believe the court’s ruling was unappropriated. Furthermore, we are concerned the ruling could set continued progress back. Limited hours will make it more difficult to meet business demand, especially while continuing to invest and install odor mitigation equipment and procedures in today’s supply chain challenged environment.

As was presented in the court, third party emission testing reviewed by the State show the facility presents no health concerns to residents or employees, suggesting the investments made have produced meaningful improvements. Simply limiting our hours will not help forward progress when experts have proven there is no imminent risk to the community.

Since opening the doors, our goal has been to be good neighbors to the residents of Adrian and provide a positive economic impact in the State of Michigan. This commitment is not something we take lightly and one we continue to uphold. We are saddened to know our efforts to communicate, invest, and improve have gone by the wayside with city leadership.

We are a small business, making significant investments in the plant and City of Adrian. We have paid meaningful taxes and employ 25 great people who are deeply committed to both environmental compliance as well as making a positive local impact. We will continue to follow directions from EGLE and MDARD to provide a solution for the residents in Adrian and hope to see a more fair and open process from city leadership moving forward.”
