MATT: WITNESSES SAY WHEN THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF FROM THE RUNWAY, IT SUDDENLY TURNED UPSIDE DOWN AND CRASHED. ACCORDING TO THE FAA, A CRASH HAPPENED AROUND 11:30 SUNDAY MORNING. THE PILOT WAS TAKEN TO BEVERLY HOSPITAL, LISTED AS CRITICAL CONDITION BUT WE ARE TOLD HE DIED FROM THOSE INJURIES. WE ARE TOLD SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AT THE AIRPORT, CAPTURED THE INCIDENT AND COULD HELP THE NTSB DETERMINE A CAUSE OF THE CRASH

Federal investigators are working to figure out the cause of a gyroplane crash in Beverly, Massachusetts.The pilot, who was critically hurt in the crash Sunday, has died of injuries, officials confirmed to our sister station WCVB.According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft went down while taking off at the Beverly Regional Airport just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday.According to witnesses, the gyroplane got off the runway but started to hover before it suddenly turned upside down and crashed.Beverly firefighters were able to pull the pilot, who was the only person on board, from the wreckage. The pilot later died. The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating and plans to review airport surveillance video.
