Suspect arrested following stabbing in Hy-Vee parking lot, police say

First responders were called to the supermarket near Jordan Creek Parkway and University Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Monday.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — One person has been arrested after a stabbing outside a Hy-Vee in West Des Moines early Monday morning.

West Des Moines police received a call of a stabbing in a car outside the Hy-Vee near Jordan Creek Parkway and University Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, the suspect and victim left the scene. 

A male victim later went to the hospital for a stab wound to his leg.

Police later arrested 30-year-old Dakota Nordstrom. He is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury
  • Going Armed with Intent
  • Burglary 1st Degree

A spokeswoman for Hy-Vee said the incident does not appear to be connected to any employees or customers, and referred further comment to West Des Moines police.
