Energy Company Worker Mauled to Death by Two Dogs

A 42-year-old energy company worker was mauled to death in a horrifying dog attack outside a residential property in Australia.

The victim, named as Kane Minion, was attacked by two dogs outside a property on Ison Road at Greenbank, Queensland. Minion was a meter reader for Downer Group's Skilltech, a subcontractor used by Energex

Emergency service units were called to the private residence in Logan, south of Brisbane, at around 10:45 A.M.

Minion was found lying in the fenced-off front yard of the property, having suffered serious injuries from a dog attack. He had visited the property to try and read an electrical meter. The homeowners were not home at the time of the incident.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Minion, who was from Marsden, died at the scene.

According to the Courier-Mail, a Bandog Bullmastiff and a Rhodesian Ridgeback cross were seized by Logan City Council animal control officers following the incident. A third dog, who was reportedly also present, was not taken away by the authorities.

A council spokesperson told 7News the two dogs have been impounded. They are reportedly being kept alive pending the result of an investigation into the incident.

The spokesperson told ABC News: "An investigation is still underway and the council is cooperating with Workplace Health and Safety and Queensland police."

According to news.com.au, a sign was visible on the fence of the property that read: "Warning–Guard dogs on duty Do not enter!"

The outlet also reported that the property had been visited by meter readers on a number of occasions in the past without incident, but dogs were usually "kept behind a second fence."

Downer Group has paid tribute to Minion, describing him as a "popular member of the team" who had worked for the company for 7 years.

"Details of the incident are still being examined and a police investigation is underway," a spokesperson said.

"Downer is extremely saddened by this tragic loss. Kane has worked with Downer's Skilltech metering business for more than seven years and was a popular member of the team.

"Downer extends our deepest sympathies to Kane's family and we will support them through this incredibly difficult time."

Tributes have been paid on social media, with many taking to Minion's Facebook profile to pay their respects.

According to the profile, which features a picture of Minion cuddling a dog, he got engaged just under a year ago. Facebook users have been posting messages of condolence under a post announcing he was to marry his partner Toni Baird.

"Condolences to family friends and all who knows him," one user wrote with another commenting: "RIP. This is horrific, my heart goes out to you all."

According to ABC News, Energex has a system in place that allows customers with dogs to register the fact they have animals at their property via the company's website. The dog owners at Ison Road had reportedly registered their canines using this system.

The Energex website also offers a service that allows dog owners to receive email or SMS text alerts 24 hours before any meter reading. "To keep our meter readers safe, they need to sight your dog and feel comfortable that it is suitably restrained, before entering your property," a statement on the company's website reads.
