The Salem Lady Wildcats opened their game at home with Roxana last night on a 31-6 run that ended with 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Bobcats Open Post Season Tonight Against Centralia At Wesclin
The Franklin Park Bobcats will open up the post season tonight as the 2 seed in the Wesclin Class L Regional. Salem enters at 20-6 and will take on 3rd seed Centralia. The Tigers are fresh off a 3rd place finish in the O’Fallon Tournament to end their regular season. It will be the 2nd game of the night starting around 7pm following the opening game at 5:30 between top-seed Wesclin and Highland. The winners will play for a trip to state on Thursday night at 6pm.

Bobcats Season Ends With Loss In Regional
The Franklin Park Bobcats season came to an end falling to Centralia in the regional semifinals at Wesclin 50-41. Salem trailed by 10 points early, but went on a short run at the end of the first half capped off by an Avery Gullion steal and score before the buzzer to cut the deficit to 22-18. But the Tigers built their lead back up and held off the Bobcats who had an off night shooting.

Linda K. Johnson, 79, of Salem, Illinois passed away on January 29, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born on May 3, 1943 at Salem Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Wm. Howard and Helen (Herdt) Berry. She married Denzil ‘Leroy’ Decker on September 2, 1962 and they had one son, Mark Allen Decker of Salem. They divorced. On July 20, 1968, she married Clifton James ‘Jim’ Johnson, Jr. in Shawnee, OK. He survives her in Salem. They had one son, Clifton ‘Cliff’ James Johnson, III of Salem.

Salem home damaged by Monday afternoon fire
No injuries were reported when a fire started on the front porch of the Chris Johnson home at 432 East McMackin Street in Salem Monday afternoon. Salem Fire Protection District officials say Johnson and his son were in the home when the fire started that quickly spread to the entire front porch and into the attic.

More details released on arrest of Alma man on Indiana armed robbery charges
Washington, Indiana Police have released further details on the armed robbery arrest of a 21-year-old Alma man on Monday. The department reports Jacob Lindsey had a Level 3 Felony Warrant for Armed Robbery issued for his arrest in January in connection with a robbery that took place in April 2018 at a Chuckles gas station in Washington, Indiana. The press release did not indicate what happened to the filing the charges now four years after the robbery.

Two people were arrested on outstanding warrants and brought to the Marion County Jail on Tuesday. 48-year-old Brian Brown, who told authorities he was homeless, was returned to the Marion County Jail from Decatur on a Marion County felony failure to appear warrant on pending possession of methamphetamine and criminal trespass to land charges. Bond is set at $15,000.

A 21-year-old Alma man has been arrested on a Davies County, Indiana warrant for armed robbery. Jacob Lindsey of Orchard Road was arrested at his place of employment in Alma by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies and taken to the Marion County Jail.
