The Weeknd is coming, and he is accompanying Disney's newest and highly anticipated movie "Avatar: The Way of Water" in cinemas this coming Dec. 16.

For many, this probably came out of nowhere. The Canadian singer suddenly shared a 12-second clip of a blue "A" with a bird in its center, with an intense and exciting music score. It also read "12.16.22."

This in itself could be anything, but the Avatar movie's account responded by sharing a telling 3-second video of them following The Weeknd's Twitter account, confirming that the "Less Than Zero" singer can be expected to be heard in its soundtrack.

According to Variety, The Weeknd's participation in the movie was hyped by the movie's producer, Jon Landau, who shared a picture of himself and the "Blinding Lights" singer, and captioned it: As the Na'vi say, 'Zola'u nìprrte' soaiane Avatar'... Welcome to the Avatar family."

Na'vi is the fictional language used in the "Avatar" movies.

While there is no word on exactly what The Weeknd worked on for the upcoming movie, many hope that it won't be just one song.

Fans React

There are mixed reactions among fans regarding The Weeknd being linked to "Avatar: The Way of Water," with some being "super psyched," while others not so much.

"Can't believe Abel will be a part of this flop," a Twitter user wrote.

"Mid artist for a mid movie," another added.

"The Weeknd is the definition of mid," an account wrote.

On the other hand, The Weeknd's fans are excited to have him in the movie's soundtrack, and some even hoped to see him on the silver screen. Although, there is no word on any of those yet.

"Masterpiece Incoming," a fan wrote and posted a meme of a character levitating into the clouds.

"I am more excited about his song than the movie itself," another added.

According to Gizmodo, this is not The Weeknd's first rodeo with movie soundtracks or even soundtracks in general.

In fact, his work in "Avatar: The Way of Water" is just another one added to his growing list.

He first got into making music for soundtracks back in the 2010s, with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," released in 2013, followed by "50 Shades of Grey" in 2014.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" is the sequel to James Cameron's 2009 blockbuster movie "Avatar." The upcoming movie takes place more than a decade after the events of the first movie and explores the Sully family.
