Kansas City Photographer finds Perfect Picture for KCI
THE NEW KCI. TRAVELERS HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH CONSTRUCTION FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AS THE NEW TERMINAL WAS BEING BUILT, BUT NOW FINISHING TOUCHES HAVE BEGUN. KMBC 9’S JAMIE WEISS IS GETTING ANOTHER EARLY LOOK AT SOME OF WHAT YOU’LL SEE INSIDE. >> IT’S AN IMAGE MOST TRAVELERS AREN’T USED TO SEEING. >> IT IS A TETRAHEDRON, AND WHAT IT DOES IS IT PICKS UP THE AIR, THE CONES, I BELIEVE, ARE A VISUAL FOR THE PILOTS AS THEY COME INTO LAND. SO IT BEING AERONAUTIC, I THOUGHT IT WAS PERFECT FOR THE KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. >> PHOTOGRAPHER JOHN HANS OF KANSAS CITY KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS. WHEN SELECTED AS AN ARTIST FOR THE NEW KCI TERMINAL, THERE WAS NO DOUBT WHICH IMAGE HE WOULD CHOOSE TO HANG ON THE AIRPORT WALLS. >> I DID DO A TOUR BACK IN FEBRUARY. AND ONE OF THE PEOPLE THE AIRPORT SAID, OH, THIS IS OUR FAVORITE IMAGE BECAUSE THEY’RE AERONAUTIC. I SHOOT AND TRY AND FIND A HOME FOR THINGS, YOU KNOW, AND THIS HAPPENED TO FIND A GOOD HOME. >> A HOME FOR PILOTS, PASSENGERS AND PEOPLE TO CONNECT. NO MATTER WHERE YOU’RE GOING OR COMING FROM. >> MY IMAGES WERE SHOT HERE IN THE KANSAS CITY AREA. TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO INTRODUCE PEOPLE TO A PART OF KANSAS CITY, IT TRULY IS AN EXTREME PLEASURE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT MY ART, HAVE IT HANGING IN THE CITY, HAVE PEOPLE LOOK AT IT. A LOT OF THE PILOTS GET OFF AND SEE THAT WILL. YOU KNOW, THEY’LL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS AND THEY’LL GET A BIG CHUCKLE OUT

Kansas City Photographer finds Perfect Picture for KCI
When travelers walk through the new KCI terminal next spring, they'll find an image they may not recognize. "It is a tetrahedron," explained photographer John Hans. "What it does is it picks up the air, the cones I believe are a visual for the pilots as they come into land. So it being aeronautic, I thought it was perfect for the Kansas City International Airport."Photographer John Hans of Kansas City knows the importance of first impressions. When selected as an artist for the new KCI terminal, there was no doubt which image he would choose to hang on the airport walls."I did do a tour back in February and one of the people at the airport said, 'Oh, this is our favorite image because they're aeronautic,'" said Hans. "I shoot and try and find a home for things, you know, and this happened to find a good home."A home for pilots, passengers and people to connect. No matter where you're going or coming from. "My images were shot here in the Kansas City area," Hans shared. "So to be able to have something to introduce people to a part of Kansas City, it truly is an extreme pleasure for me to be able to present my art, have it hanging in the city, have people look at it. Hopefully it is thought provoking and they end up enjoying it. I know that a lot of the pilots that get off and see that will, you know, they'll know exactly what it is and they'll get a big chuckle out of it, I'm sure."
