The consultancy said last month it expected the total EUarea sown with rapeseed to expand next season, after high pricesencouraged farmers to sow more of the oilseed and crops startedin good conditions. The rapeseed area would rise slightly in the main western EUproducing countries while it is expected to fall in northernEurope, Hungary and Bulgaria, it said in its projections report. For sunflower seeds, provided yields recover from a sharpdrop this summer due to the severe drought that hit many partsof the bloc, output is predicted to rebound to 11.2 milliontonnes from a revised 9.0 million in 2022. The soybean harvest is seen rising 30% to 3.1 milliontonnes, Strategie Grains said. Sunflower and soybean are expected to be favoured in croprotations because of their lower need for inputs compared torival crops, a key factor at a time of high prices of inputs andphytosanitary products, the consultancy has said.(Reporting by Sybille de La Hamaide; editing by JohnStonestreet) © Copyright Thomson Reuters 2022.
