Paul Pelosi attends Kennedy Center Honors in first appearance since hammer attack

Paul Pelosi attended the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night, in his first public appearance since he was brutally attacked with a hammer by a home invader more than a month ago.

Paul Pelosi was wearing a hat and one glove at the awards ceremony, possibly to conceal injuries he sustained from the assault.

He had undergone extensive surgery following the violent October assault and still faces a “long haul” to a full recovery, Nancy Pelosi, also 82, said last month.

Doctors had to remove his skull, reshape it and fuse it back together following the violent attack in which a maniac broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home and bashed his head in with a hammer on Oct. 28.

Paul Pelosi spent about six days in Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center Intensive Care Unit.

Last week, Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who is stepping down as the Democratic leader in the House, said her husband was “coming along,” but needs more time to fully recover.

“It’s going to take a while,” she said during her weekly press conference Thursday. “It’s going to take a while. Head injuries are — they have an impact beyond surgery. It’s a big thing.”

David DePape, 42, was arrested for the attack and has been charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault. He allegedly had planned to target Nancy Pelosi, but she was not home at the time.

In addition to the Pelosis, President Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden and wife Melissa Cohen, Vice President Kamala Harris, second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Dr. Anthony Fauci attended the 45th Kennedy Center Honors, according to Politico.

This year’s honorees included actor George Clooney, singers Amy Grant and Gladys Knight, composer Tania León and the four U2 band members.

President Biden hosted the honorees at the White House before the official ceremony, as is customary.

The event recognizes five people or groups for their influence on American culture through the arts each year.
