The University of Tulsa is moving toward the future.
Earlier this year, NewsChannel 8 reported on how robots are helping landscape TU's campus.
Now, robots are roving around TU's campus delivering meals.
TU President Brad Carson says it's their latest improvement.
"This collaboration happened in collaboration with the dining team at the University of Tulsa to really give students a sustainable, convenient, scalable, and just a fun alternative to your traditional food delivery option," said Starship Technologies Marketing Manager Andrea Martinez.
Starship, the company behind the robot, says each machine is meant to be a part of the campus.
"It's not meant to be something that drives alongside robots, it's supposed to be alongside people. So it is completely autonomous. So it has a bunch of AI technology using all of those various different radar sensors, things like that. And so it drives from point A to point B completely by itself," Martinez said.
The robot delivers food to the front door of your building.
"I just like to describe it as, like a cooler box on wheels," she said. "So it is meant to keep the temperature of the food as is from when the restaurant drops it into the robot to when it gets delivered to a student."
Not only is it cool to watch, but the robot also helps the environment.
"It is completely powered by zero-carbon electricity," she said. "So your average delivery from a robot is consuming about as much energy as it takes to boil like a pot of water for like a cup of tea."
