Skiers, snowboarders hit the slopes for the weekend after Sierra snowstorms
The fresh powder in the Sierra had skiing fresh on the minds of many over the weekend.
“This weekend has been absolutely incredible. It's been dumping on us for several days straight right now,” said Cole Zimmerman, communications manager at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe.
The resort had 41 trails open, which is about 35% of the terrain.
“It’s really been a combination of this natural snow we're getting, and our rockstar snowmaking teams that have been working throughout the night to make sure there's a nice base layer so when mother nature gives us a gift like this, there's some really great snow and really fun conditions for everybody here,” Zimmerman explained.

While plenty of regulars showed up to take advantage of the recent round of snowstorms, others were just visiting for the weekend. Kara Sun came from Irvine for a trip to the mountain with her family.
“We were kind of like, ‘Let’s make the most of it and experience winter,’ and we’re really experiencing it to the full extent right now,” Sun said. “You really don’t get this in Southern California, so any snow we get is pretty exciting.”
Many are excited about the start of the season so far. An early storm in November allowed ski resorts, like Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood to open ahead of schedule.
