ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Just before 5 a.m. Sunday, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on La Vega Drive in the South Valley for reports of an armed subject barricaded inside the residence.

It took some time for deputies to make contact with the victim, who told them 41-year-old Leon Salazar was in the home in a close with two guns. They say the victim’s two-year-old daughter was in the home along with Salazar and four other adults.
The SWAT team arrived, and eventually, the two-year-old was rescued. The other two adults were also able to come out of the home. Salazar eventually attempted to flee and was caught. He’s facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a household member, child abuse and false imprisonment.
