Rare is the player, especially in the ultra-competitive Suburban One League National Conference, that is named to the conference's first team on both offense and defense in the vote of coaches.

Then there's what Central Bucks East senior Ethan Shine did.

Try being named first-team SOL National Conference both ways, at linebacker and running back, as a junior and a senior.

"That's just an incredible accomplishment," Central Bucks East head coach John Donnelly said. "And to do it at those two positions is really something. Many running backs, because of the wear and tear on their bodies, end up playing defensive back for the most part. It's just an incredible feat."

For what he did on defense — 79 tackles with 15 tackles for loss — Shine is the Bucks County Courier Times/Intelligencer Defensive Player of the Year. He was a huge part of a Patriots team that started 5-0 and finished 8-3. And those three losses came against 9-2 Pennsbury and 9-5 Central Bucks West twice.

Central Bucks East senior Ethan Shine is our Defensive Player of the Year.

And, Shine was just as productive on the other side of the ball with his 1,911 rushing yards, four 200-yard games, and 25 rushing touchdowns will attest.

All told, during his illustrious CB East career, Shine set six school records and finished in the top three for nine other records on both offense and defense.

"Ethan is the entire package on and off the field," Donnelly said. "He is an excellent student who is involved in his school, his church and the community. And his accomplishments on the field speak for themselves."
