The City of Elgin hosted a Sesquicentennial celebration to honor the community's founding in 1872.
Local residents are celebrating their rich history of 150 years in existence.
The celebration was held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11:00 a.m.
One important part of the celebration was the official Sesquicentennial Time Capsule that was dedicated at 1:50 p.m.
The highlight of this celebration was the lighted parade with many floats and fun-lighted vehicles at 6:00 p.m.
Many city departments sponsored the parade. For example, the City of Elgin, Elgin's Volunteer Fire Department, and the Bastrop Travis Counties ESD#1.
A local church called St. Peter's Lutheran Church provided a Live Nativity, after the parade at 7:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park -109 Depot Street.
Many people who attended were able to enjoy free activities, such as pictures with Santa, lighted parade, free showing of The Polar Express, food trucks, a Hot Cocoa Stroll and more.
In light of the holidays, the Elgin Chamber of Commerce sponored the Hot Cocoa Stroll with a special perk.
Attendees had the opportunity to purchase a limited edition souvenir mug and enjoy hot cocoa samples from participating businesses throughout the downtown area.
