Recap –

The Broncos arrived in Mitchell coming off a 63-62 win over Jamestown where they shot over 50% from deep in the game. Tigers knew that the HC offense would have a similar plan of attack with their perimeter shooting. DWU defense held Hastings to under 10 points in the entire first quarter but all nine points coming from behind the arc. Dakota Wesleyan was all over the Broncos in the quarter forcing five of their nine total turnovers and jumping out to a 16-9 lead after the first. Campbell led with her six points in the quarter followed by Reiner with four and Ihnen and Rosenquist both getting a three-pointer to fall.

Hastings stayed true to their scouting report by hitting two more shots from deep to give them 15 points, all being from behind the arc to start the contest. The Tigers called and raised their two shots from deep with four of their own. Ihnen couldn’t miss drilling all three attempts from behind the arc to start the second and then Wilson found Rynn Osthus for the fourth three-pointer to give the Tigers a 28-15 lead. Hastings hit a couple free throws before finding the bottom of the net for another three-pointer resulting in all six made field goals being behind the arc for HC. Wilson would again find Ihnen behind the arc for Isabel’s fifth three-pointer of the half going a perfect 5-5 from deep.   Both squads would trade bucket for bucket to close out the first half. Broncos would win the second quarter by a slim 22-20 margin for a halftime score of 36-31 DWU.

The second half showed the Broncos making halftime adjustments and attacking the Tiger defense inside. HC used aggressive dribble drives to draw fouls and earn multiple trips to the ‘charity’ stripe. DWU was in a good defensive position for a lot of the dribble drives but got enough of the Bronco’s players to send them to the line. HC scored 6 of their 15 total points in the quarter from the ‘charity’ line.  Dakota Wesleyan won the quarter 16-15 leaning on good ball movement assisting on five of their six made field goals in the quarter. The good ball movement resulted in six different Tigers scoring in the quarter with Campbell leading with her five.

DWU recorded the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to push their lead to double digits. Hastings finally got on the board in the quarter with a deep ball but would be wiped off with a Osthus three. It was all Hastings for the remainder of the game with the Broncos closing out the final 7:00 on a 25-11 run for a final of 74-70.
