Project Rescue Holds First Christmas Bazaar
The bluegrass group Gloryland Way providing entertainment at Project Rescue’s Christmas Bazaar.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)-A local organization who looks to help those who are homeless started what they hope becomes a new tradition.The bluegrass group Gloryland Way, led by leader Vincent Tan, provided entertainment for Project Rescue’s first Christmas Bazaar at the Standifer Gap Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Visitors could shop at a variety of vendors, some who were charities of their own including the Woven Projects which give refugees of war a chance to sell their art. This event was a fundraiser for Project Rescue who provide resources to the community such as a food pantry.
The founder and director of Project Rescue, Carla Smith, said that, “We all can help the less fortunate in our community. Just like my shirt says, “Each one, Reach one”. If one person would just reach out and lift up another person in a time of need, we would all be in a better place. I would encourage you, help one person. Pack a small rescue pack, like we pack with snacks and knick-knacks and water in it. You see someone on the side of the road? Hand it to them. We all need a little love and a little help sometimes. We can do it.”
Project Rescue was founded in 2014. They host a block party every April that helps homeless people apply for jobs and receive financial counseling. The food pantry is open at Standifer Gap Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Thursdays from 10-11:30 AM or until supplies run out.
