A man has been arrested after a police pursuit that included "a highly coordinated and lengthy search." Police remained seeking one suspect involved in the incident.

The arrested suspect, 22-year-old Bhode Smith, was booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, driving on a revoked license, and violating probation and/or parole.

Police said the investigation began at approximately 3:16 a.m. on Sunday when they saw a white SUV traveling near 800 West North Temple. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over.

A pursuit began because police said the white SUV because closely matched the description of a car stolen during an aggravated assault that happened a few hours earlier.

The investigation regarding the aggravated assault began just before 8:20 p.m. on Saturday near 100 South and 1900 West, officials said.

"During the investigation, officers learned two people were caught breaking into a car," a press release stated. "One of the victims confronted the suspects. During that confrontation, one of the suspects threatened one of the victims with a gun."

One of the suspects reportedly drove away, while the second suspect got into their own car and drove away.

Approximately two minutes into the pursuit on Sunday, officials said they lost sight of the stolen SUV from 800 West North Temple, and several began checking the neighborhood.

Police located a similar SUV just before 3:20 a.m. near 500 South Navajo Street. They again attempted to pull the car over, but the driver refused.

An SUV was spotted two minutes later at 500 South Navajo. At that time, the driver allegedly got out of the vehicle and began running into the neighborhood.

A search effort began, including containment around the suspect’s last known location, which was in the 900-block of West Pueblo Street.

During their search, officials reported hearing multiple gunshots. However, those gunshots were determined to be unrelated to the pursuit.

Smith was found hiding in a garbage can near 950 South and 1500 West at 4:38 a.m. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A woman was also arrested in relation to the case; police said she was in the SUV that Smith was driving when he fled from 500 South Navajo. Her identity was not initially released.

No further information is available for release. Both the aggravated assault incident and pursuit remain under investigation.

"Officers have determined the white SUV Smith was driving was separate from the stolen white SUV they initially tried to stop at 800 West North Temple Street," officials said. "That SUV and the suspect driver - who may be connected to the aggravated assault - is still wanted by police."
