Police: 2 people struck by driver during possible medical emergency

MIAMI – Two people were injured after being hit by a car in Miami-Dade County.

It happened just before noon on Sunday near Northwest 17th Street and 8th Avenue in Miami.

Witnesses said the car struck a pole along with the two pedestrians.

“I see a car coming fast, an individual standing right here,” said witness David Ocana.

According to police, the driver may have been going through a medical emergency.

Officers roped off the area for an investigation, transporting the man and woman hit by the car to Jackson Memorial Hospital, which is only a few blocks away from the crash.

Authorities said the person behind the wheel was also sent to the hospital for further evaluation.

“The dude came and I guess something happened, he had a trauma, he hit that pole,” said Ocana.

The area is a popular gathering spot for homeless, with tents and belongings lining the street.

Witnesses said both pedestrians were left unconscious after the crash.

Police have not said whether the driver will be facing any charges.
