Slow Horses star Gary Oldman has teased a new direction for the second season of the Apple TV+ series.
The actor, who plays Jackson Lamb in the spy thriller, spoke with RadioTimes about the latest batch of episodes, which premiered on the streaming service on Friday (December 2).
The newest story sees Jackson tackle a mystery which involves a figure from his past, dredging up repressed memories in the process, with Oldman saying this new direction is more “personal” for his character.

“The so-called natural death of ‘Dicky Bow’ brings up a lot of the past for Lamb,” he said. “From the get-go, he really has a suspicion that there's more to it than meets the eye and believes that he was murdered. [So] he recruits his gang of losers and misfits [to investigate].
“So yes, it is [more personal] – it really is literally the past being asleep for years, and then kind of bubbles up and comes to the surface. It really is bringing up old scores, and old wounds,” he continued.
Expanding on Jackson’s relationship with the victim, Oldman said: “Dicky’s from that sort of Cold War era and Lamb knew him, if not directly worked with him. He knew him from that era. It’s like that sort of marine mentality, isn't it? You know, ‘We never leave a man behind,' kind of thing. He's very protective and loyal in that sense."

The series, which also stars Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas and Olivia Cooke, was renewed for a third and fourth season earlier this year, which are set to be based on novels Real Tigers and Spook Street respectively.
Author of the source novels, Mick Herron, recently said that the adaptation process for the second season, which is based on Dead Lions, was slightly different than before.
“Slow Horses [season one] was very faithful to the plot of the original book. That's probably less true in the next one [season two] for a variety of reasons,” he said. “All the big changes to plots have been made with either my happy agreement or, sometimes, at my suggestion.”
Slow Horses is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
