EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the 98th consecutive year, GE in East Cleveland at NELA Park lit up the night with its holiday light display. This year’s theme, “Holiday Delighter,” uses more than a half million LED lights.

“For some people Black Friday signals the the start of the holidays and it’s what kicks it off,” said Kathy Sterio, president of GE Lighting, “but this is the kickoff for the holiday season for me.” Sterio then introduced the winner of the honor to throw the switch, Kathryn Wesokowski, of Bratenhal.

Dozens of GE employees and their families and friends gathered Thursday night to watch as the switch was thrown by Wesokowski, who got the honor by being the highest bidder at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank auction.

After the switch was thrown, and the display came to life, guests wandered along the nearly quarter mile long route on Noble Avenue to enjoy the different displays. The centerpiece of the display is the 60-foot replica of the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C.

Cars passing by slowed down as passengers took photos and videos as they drove past the display.

The lights will be on display around the clock through Jan. 2.
