A fifty-one point second half helped lead the Doane University Tigers to an 83-79 victory over the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

The Tigers hit 69.6 percent over the final twenty minutes, making 16 of 23 attempts from the field, outscoring UJ 51-39.

UJ was the better shooting team in the first half, connecting on 55 percent overall and 50 percent (8 of 16) from three-point range. One of those threes came from Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN) just under two minutes before halftime, giving Jamestown a 38-26 lead.

Doane trailed by eight at the start of the second half and was down by double digits again before going on a 20-9 run. Alec Oberhauser’s basket gave the Tigers their first lead since the 12:49 mark of the first.

After trading the lead back and forth, UJ was up 76-72 with just under two minutes to play. That ended up being enough time for the Tigers to mount their comeback. Brady Timm had nine of the final 11 Doane points and the Jimmies managed just a pair of free throws down the stretch.

Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) paced UJ with 21 points and eight rebounds. Colby Vazquez (JR/Millbrae, CA) (19), Woodford (17), and Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) (13) also were in double figures.

Timm led all scorers with 26 and Oberhauser finished with 22.

Jamestown (8-2, 3-2 GPAC) hosts Valley City State University Wednesday at 8 p.m.
