2 charged with kidnapping after Massachusetts man found dead in their Lowell home
A man and woman from Massachusetts are accused of restraining and holding a man against his will after he was found dead inside their Lowell home, according to authorities.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell police Supt. Barry Golner said Michael Burke and Samantha Perry, both 38 years old, have been charged with kidnapping.
On Friday, Lowell police went to the Coburn Street residence where Burke and Perry live to follow up on a well-being check. The officers executed a search warrant at the home and found the body of a 37-year-old Lowell man, who has not been identified.
Ryan and Golner said evidence found in the home by police suggested that the man had been restrained inside the residence at some point.
Based on the location and condition of the body, authorities said the man's death is being investigated as suspicious. Investigators believe the death is an isolated incident. The case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to positively identify the man and determine the cause and manner of his death.
Burke and Perry will be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.
The case is being investigated by Ryan's office, Lowell police and state police detectives assigned to Ryan's office.
On Thursday, the Lowell Police Department issued a missing person alert for 36-year-old John Wayne Potter. Police have not said if this missing person case is connected to the body found in the Coburn Street home on Friday.
