Make sure to throw out any containers you may have, because Weis Markets announced on Nov. 23 that they are recalling 108 containers of one of their ice cream brands.
In a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Weis Markets has revealed that over one hundred containers of their Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48oz) (a part of their Quality Caramel Caribou Ice Cream brand) will be taken off store shelves due to undeclared soy and coconut allergens.
People with allergies to either of the two are advised to refrain from indulging in the frozen treat, as doing so could cause "serious or life-threatening allergic reactions."
Officials say that the product had been distributed in 197 Weis Markets' stores across 7 different states including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and West Virginia.
At this time, the Food and Drug Administration has received no reports on any illnesses due to the mistake.
An investigation done by Weis revealed that the problem was caused by a "temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process."
Customers who may have bought the ice cream are able to return the product for a full refund.
