A Cook County judge Sunday afternoon denied bail to a 36-year-old car club member who prosecutors claimed fatally shot a fellow club member outside a suburban hospital, where a third member of the group was brought due to an unrelated shooting.

The alleged gunman, Marques Rose, of the 8100 block of South Winchester Avenue, faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of 28-year-old Rockford resident Brandon McGee.

Rose was arrested shortly after the fatal shooting that took place outside Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn early Saturday, according to Oak Lawn police. He allegedly tossed a loaded .38-caliber revolver under a parked car and later tested positive for gunshot residue, prosecutors told a judge during a bail hearing broadcast on YouTube.

The shooting occurred at 2 a.m. Saturday outside the hospital’s emergency room entrance, where a group had gathered following a double homicide in Auburn Gresham. The homicide victim who was taken to Christ medical center has not been identified.

Prosecutors said Rose and McGee were members of a car enthusiasts social club and that they were among a large group of club members who relocated to the south suburban emergency room after a fellow member was shot near the 800 block of West 87th Street in Auburn Gresham.

The men allegedly began quarreling on the west side of the hospital on West 95th Street and Rose allegedly shoved the victim, McGee. The victim struck Rose, knocking him to the ground, assistant state’s attorney Leonore Carlson told the court. Rose allegedly threatened to kill the victim and both men walked away, she added.

Moments later, authorities said Rose allegedly returned to the area and emerged from between parked cars with a gun, shooting McGee in the head, Carlson said.

At least three eyewitnesses identified Rose as the gunman and video evidence corroborated their version of events, prosecutors said.

Rose has five prior felonies, including convictions for guns and aggravated battery to a police officer, prosecutors said.

Noting that the scuffle between Rose and the victim had ended well before the shooting, Judge Barbara Lynette Dawkins approved a request to hold Rose without bail and holding him without bail for a separate felony for which he was out on bail.

If convicted, Rose could face a natural life sentence.
