Luminary Trail Walk at the Norma Johnson Center

DOVER – TuscParks will host the rescheduled “Luminary Trail Walk” from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Norma Johnson Center, located off of state Route 39 between Dover and Sugarcreek.

The luminary trail walk will begin at the Preservation Loop Kiosk next to the yellow pole barn at 4033 state Route 39. The lit trail will be a quarter-mile long. Visitors can walk along the accessible trail through the forest and out to the Preservation Pond guided by luminarias. Paper lanterns will be strewn among the pine forest for the return walk to the parking area.

Starting at 4:30 p.m., hot chocolate and cookies will be served. The event is free, but donations will be accepted. This event will be held weather permitting; check with the Norma Johnson Center or the TuscParks Facebook page for updates. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Questions about the event can be directed to the TuscParks Department office at 330-365-3278 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Forestry Association to meet

DOVER − The East Central Ohio Forestry Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the community room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.

Dan Devitt, vice president of NARO Ohio (National Association of Royalty Owners) will speak. Nominations for next year’s officers will be accepted ahead of the elections in January. All are welcome. No registration necessary. Call the library at 330-343-6123 for more information.

The East Central Ohio Forestry Association meets monthly at the Dover Public Library. Each month, a different speaker presents on a topic relevant to Ohio woodlands and natural habitat.

Learn Canva at library

DOVER − The Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., will present the program “Canva for Business” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room.

Canva is a tool for making print materials like fliers, menus, and business cards, or designing digitally for social media or crafting a presentation. Register at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.

Civil War Round Table to host annual trivia night 

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will hold a special Civil War-themed trivia night at 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.

The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table is to educate the community about the American Civil War, preserve Civil War heritage and to remember those who struggled for their cause.

The trivia night will be dedicated to the late Steve Long, iconic community leader, reporter, actor, playwright and Civil War buff. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team. For more information, contact the library at 330-343-6123. 

Program on charcuterie boards is Monday

DOVER − Chris Kendle, educator of family and consumer sciences at the Ohio State University Extension Office in Tuscarawas County, will be at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., at 6:30 p.m. Monday to teach the basics of building charcuterie boards.

She will talk through board essentials, traditional board components, and theme boards. Charcuterie boards, also known as grazing boards, might include cured meats, cheese, vegetables, nuts, olives, dried fruits, crackers and bread.

Discussion of ‘A Christmas Story’ at library Monday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Carl Quatraro will discuss the making of the holiday movie “A Christmas Story” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Main Library of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System, 121 Fair Ave. NW.

Artists’ reception Thursday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas Arts Partnership will host “An Evening of LoveTusc Inspirations” from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas, 330 University Drive NE.

The event is a reception where artists participating in the LoveTusc Sculpture Tour will display their creative process, notes, and concept-painted designs for each community's LoveTusc sculpture. The designs created by artists will reflect what will be painted on the sculptures.

The reception is free to attend, but donations will be accepted to help each community reach its fundraising goal for the LoveTusc Sculpture Tour. Light refreshments will be provided. Common Pleas Court appoints magistrate

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas has appointed attorney Jennifer T. Lowry as magistrate. Before Lowry started with the court in October, she was in the practice of law, with a focus on domestic relations cases, for 23 years. She was a partner in Crawford & Lowry, LLC in Canton.

For the past 15 years, Lowry has served both Tuscarawas and Stark counties as a certified guardian ad litem. She also worked at the Stark County Child Support Enforcement Agency for over six years. She graduated from the University of Akron School of Law.

She is a member of the Stark County Bar Association and served as a speaker for various topics for the Family Law Committee. Lowry is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Tuscarawas County Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Magistrates.

Christmas in the Village begins Saturday

STRASBURG – Christmas in the Village will kick off at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 with the first Rudolph Run 5K race.

Registration will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the at the school administration building, 140 North Bodmer Ave. At 10:15 a.m., a one-mile fun run/walk begins, and awards will be distributed at noon. Cost is $35 for the 5K run, $25 for the fun run/walk and $10 for the virtual run. Register at https://ohiochallengeseries.enmotive.com.

Registration for the parade begins at 3:45 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church. The parade steps off at 4:15 p.m. Registration will end at 4 p.m. The Strasburg Parent Teacher Group will secure Santa Claus to ride in the parade. No other Santas are allowed to participate.

All entries are subject to approval of the parade committee. The parade route will be on Seventh Street SW and move along South Bodmer Avenue and end before the Strasburg Franklin Schools. There is no charge to enter the parade.
