After getting off to a 2-1 start on the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars fell on some hard times in October. They went 0-5, losing some heartbreaking games along the way as all five were by one score. Christian Kirk fell one yard short of scoring a touchdown at the buzzer against the New York Giants as they caught no breaks in October.

The Jaguars just couldn’t get out of their own way as a lot of their issues were self-inflicted. Costly turnovers and untimely penalties were their undoings as execution is paramount when playing close games. Jacksonville’s execution was not good and as a result, they lost.

The performance of Trevor Lawrence played a big part in the team’s struggles. In those October games, Lawrence completed only 57.8 percent of his passes for 1,068 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. That resulted in an unsightly 72.6 passer rating.

He also fumbled five times, losing three of them for eight total turnovers. The only saving grace for his stat line was that he ran the ball 19 times for 77 yards and scored three times on the ground.

But, once the calendar turned to November, something clicked for Lawrence. He began resembling what the Jaguars had hoped he would turn into when they selected him first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In three games, Jacksonville went 2-1, getting things back on track with wins over the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens and a 10-point loss on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs. Lawrence completed 76.9 percent of his passes for 815 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions.

His passer rating over that stretch was 116.1 as Lawrence is playing the best football of his young career. According to NFL on CBS, the completion percentage was the best in the NFL during November, while his passer rating and touchdown to interception ratio were both second.

November was an encouraging turnaround for Lawrence as he is looking to get more comfortable in Doug Pederson’s system every week. While the playoffs are a long shot, meaningful football could be played in Jacksonville for the first time in five years.

If the Jaguars can knock off the Detroit Lions in Week 13, their matchup with the Tennessee Titans in Week 14 becomes a very important one. A 5-7 Jaguars team would be only two games behind in the divisional race as the Titans are traveling to take on the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend.

If Lawrence can carry over the momentum that he created in November into December, the Jaguars have at least a puncher’s chance of making a run at a postseason spot.
