Saturday we saw new WIAA state football champions crowned in every division: A moment all of those schools will remember forever.
But the ending of the 3A title game? That was on an entirely different level.
In something you have to see to believe, Yelm trailed Eastside Catholic 13-12 with less than a minute to go in the game.
Yelm went for a long pass, which was intercepted, and it felt like, for a split second, the game was over.
Enter Kyler Ronquillo.
Ronquillo ripped the ball away from the defender and ran it all the way for a touchdown. He turned a game-ending turnover into a game-winning touchdown.
Again, with his team trailing by one and with less than a minute to go.
The definition of clutch and a wild way to win Yelm's first ever state championship
"You know me, every time I'm gonna go make a play" Kyler said after his team's thrilling win."
"I don't care who it is on me, whether you got stars or not (recruiting ratings) I'm gonna take it from him, I'm a dog for real." Adding "I ripped it straight from his hands."
The emotion of the play and the gravity of what it mean showing through with an excited Kyler Ronquillo.
Head Coach Jason Ronquillo gave all credit to his players. Remember, they made a similar rally to win in the final seconds in the 3A semifinals when they edged defending champion Bellevue 28-27.
"Breathtaking victory" Coach Ronquillo said afterwards.
"The kids fought when we needed them to at the end. An exciting play at the end, it came down to the wire just like the weekend before. I'm so proud of the dudes, what a way to end the season."
Yelm ends it as State Champion for the first time ever in football with a 14-0 record.
In 4A, we had another fight to the finish with Lake Stevens and Kennedy Catholic. A back and forth affair showing the immense talent from both sides, including Notre Dame bound running back Jayden Limar of Lake Stevens who scored the first touchdown of the game.
Ultimately, with about five minutes left to play, the Vikings kicked a field goal to take a 24-22 lead. They held off Kennedy Catholic from there for the win and their first title in 4A. An impressive season end to end from the heat of the summer to the frigid temperatures in the 30's we saw on Championship Saturday.
The other champions crowned in Washington included Lynden in 2A, Royal in 1A, Liberty Bell in 1B and Napavine in 2B.
