Rick Scott praises Elon Musk for Kanye West’s Twitter suspension over swastika post

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) praised Twitter CEO Elon Musk for “standing up against” antisemitism by suspending Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, from the platform over his pro-Nazi posts.

Scott penned a letter to Musk on Friday thanking him for suspending the rap and fashion mogul from the site after promoting Nazism in a series of tweets before complimenting the Twitter chief’s “approach to content moderation.” Ye had sparked controversy in recent months when he began making antisemitic remarks in media interviews. The situation escalated on Friday when he embraced antisemitism, Nazism, and Adolf Hitler during a three-hour InfoWars appearance.

KANYE WEST’S TWITTER ACCOUNT SUSPENDED BY ELON MUSK AFTER POSTING NAZI SWASTIKA IMAGE

“I want to express my thanks for your swift action to suspend the Twitter account of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, following his sickening comments praising Nazis and Adolf Hitler, and sharing the image of a swastika,” Scott wrote. “You were right to take this decisive action to prevent acts of violence and hate crimes against the Jewish community that could have been motivated by these disgusting comments and posts on your platform.”

“I also want to commend you for your approach to content moderation on Twitter which, unlike the previous leadership, shows that you are committed to standing up for free speech and making an appropriate distinction between hate speech and speech that doesn’t align with the woke values of Big Tech,” he continued.

Musk suspended Ye on Friday morning after the rapper posted an image of a swastika inside a Star of David. He explained the decision in a tweet, writing, “I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended.”

The Tesla founder took over Twitter in late October while describing himself as a “free speech absolutist” who would bring back suspended accounts, including those of Ye and former President Donald Trump. He also promised to make major changes to the platform’s content moderation practices.
