BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams opened their seasons at the Brown University Alden Invitational and the Boston University Season Opener on Saturday, Dec. 3rd.
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) was the highlight of the BU Season Opener for the Friars on the men's side. White competed in the mile against a solid field of 47 competitors. White finished first overall, with a time of 4:07.75.
Freshman
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) ran a solid race in the 1,000 meters. Powell placed 2nd overall with a time of 2:23.95. In the 3000-meter run,
David Principe, Jr. (Johnston, R.I.) finished in seventh place (7:57.72).
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.),
David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland),
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) all ran personal records in the 5,000 meters of 13:39.53, 14:00.08, and 14:09.87, respectively.
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) ran a personal record of 8:05.33 in the 3,000 meter run.
On the women's side,
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) finished in the top-10 for the mile (ninth) in a time of 4:45.09.
At the Brown University Alden Invitational, three female Friars finished among the top-five in the mile. Senior
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) finished in first place, with a time of 5:05.16, sophomore
Claire Kelly (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) finished third in 5:15.41 and senior
Ashley Foley (Beverly, Mass.) placed fourth (5:16.34).
Junior
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) finished third in the men's 500 meters with a time of 1:07.00. Graduate student
Tim Dolan (Cinnaminson, N.J.) placed third in the men's 1000 meters (2:34.21).
The Friars return to action on Jan. 15 at the UMass Amherst winter opener.
