Massachusetts Women's Track And Field Kicks Off Season At Brown

The Minutewomen were dominant on the track and in the field, earning 26 top-eight finishes on the day.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team competed in the first meet of their indoor campaign on Saturday at the Alden Invitational at Brown University. 26 Minutewomen finished in the top eight in their respective events.

Highlights from Competition

  • Faith Richardson was the first Minutewoman to cross the finish line in the 60-meter dash in 7.79 seconds. Kathryn Nippert (7.92) and Grace Poku (7.96) both trailed her, claiming 6th and 8th place, respectively.
  • Lillian Kirry won the 300-meter dash, while teammates Sadai Headley-Mawasi (4th, 42.04), Elizabeth Hoenes (7th, 42.64), and Grace Poku (8th, 42.67) also recorded top-eight finishes.
  • Jennifer Nadig was the runner-up in the 500-meter dash, running a time of 1:19.89. Sarah Witt was the second Minutewoman to cross the finish line, claiming 5th place in 1:20.83.
  • Kirry ran to second place in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.98 seconds.
  • The UMass "A" Team in the 4x400-meter relay (Daniella Pierre, Hoenes, Kirry, Headley-Mawasi) won the event, running a 3:57.67.
  • Four Minutewomen scored in the high jump. Elizabeth Lodge (3rd, 5' 5.25") led the squad in the event, while Tessa Bostwick (4th, 5' 5.25"), Marielsa McBride (5' 3.25"), and Courtney Rowland (7th, 5' 3.25") followed.
  • Rose Wagner (3rd, 11' 7.75") and Jessica Anderson (7th, 10' 8") claimed Massachusetts' two top-eight spots in the pole vault.
  • Jordan Lafave placed 2nd in the long jump (18' 3"), while teammates Nippert (4th, 17' 9.75"), Lodge (5th, 17' 8.25"), and Tiarra Deveaux (7th, 17' 6.25") followed.
  • Gabriella Pagnini placed 4th in shot put (42' 7") and 8th in weight (49' 0.75"), while Voski Armenakyan claimed 7th in weight (49' 1").
  • Lafave took 8th place in the triple jump with a leap of 35' 9.25".

The multis head to the URI Multi Meet on Friday, December 9, while the rest of the squad will head to the UML Season Opener at the TRACK at New Balance on Saturday, December 10.
