Tom Ellis Classic

Chippewa enjoyed a strong day with three titles, two runners-up and seven top-five finishes en route to placing second out of 13 teams at the Tom Ellis Classic at Mansfield Madison on Saturday.

Ben Pierce (113), Neil Miller (175) and Tyler Lower (285) each won a championship for the Chipps, while Cam Davis (132) and Nate Morris (215) both finished second. Brock Shy added a third at 138, Albert Moreno was fourth at 144 and Gabi Gartin finished sixth at 120.

“Overall it was a great day,” said Chipps coach Hanna Hall. “We had a lot of close matches and our kids had what it took to get the win. I was very impressed with Pierce, a freshman, for winning his first high school tournament. Davis and Morris both had great tournaments and ran into tough matches in the finals. Miller pushed the pace to secure the championship, and Lower had five matches and pinned his way through.”

Cambridge Invitational

West Holmes performed well at the Cambridge Invitational, where Mason Taylor won a title to lead the Knights to a fourth-place finish with 177 points. Grady Toye, Loudon Dixon and Blake Norman all finished third, Macin Miller and Grant Miller took fourth and Peyton Martin and Hunter McCluggage finished fifth.

“I am pretty happy with the effort and how well the kids wrestled,” said Knights coach Scott Vaughn. “Taylor was dominant, Dixon, a freshman, was really impressive, Toye and Norman both had awesome tournament performances and overall I was really happy with every kid's performance this weekend.”
