Flashback: Vikings Run Over Jets in 2018

By Ali Siddiqui

The 9-2 Minnesota Vikings and the 7-4 New York Jets are set to face off on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. Minnesota is coming off a bounce-back 33-26 victory at home against the New England Patriots, while New York is coming off a 31-10 loss to the Chicago Bears at home.

The Vikings are 3-8 all-time against the Jets but have won the past two matchups against them.

This is another winnable game for Minnesota, but another one that could be tough. Maybe Minnesota is due for their first double-digit win since week one over the Green Bay Packers. It will be very interesting to find out. In the end, getting another win is what matters most.

So far, Minnesota is 3-0 against the AFC East. However, New York has a very good defense. They only allow 17.8 points per game (fourth-best in the league).

The last time these two teams met came in 2018. Minnesota won 37-17.

Kirk Cousins went 25/40 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Latavius Murray rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Adam Thielen caught nine passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.

Sam Darnold went 17/42 for 206 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions for New York. Trenton Cannon caught four passes for 69 yards. Chris Herndon caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Darryl Roberts had a game-high 11 tackles.

With the win, Minnesota improved to 4-2-1, while New York fell to 3-4. Minnesota finished the season at 8-7-1, while New York finished at 4-12.

Minnesota, barring a major collapse, will win its first divisional title since 2017. They still have a shot at getting homefield advantage but need to keep winning. Two weeks ago, they had a disastrous loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys, but all is certainly not lost when it comes to getting the first seed. They also need the Philadelphia Eagles to start losing some games, though too, especially since they have the head-to-head tiebreaker over them.

Prediction: Vikings win 23-13
