CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – A large fire broke out Saturday evening in Champaign just before 9 p.m.

The fire occurred at 112 E. Hill Street in Champaign, according to Randy Smith, Public Information Officer for the City of Champaign.

Officials say the fire began in a large detached garage fire at the address. It then spread to a two-story single family home on the property.

The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm as multiple fire crews from Champaign and Urbana rushed to the scene.

Heavy smoke was reported by a WCIA viewer drifting along University Avenue from the fire in Champaign, several blocks from the scene.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

No one was home at the time the fire started, and no firefighters were injured.

The residents of the home have been displaced from the fire damage.
