Matthew Wilkinson told KCRA that when he got home Monday he had his teenage son come out to help him work on the brakes of his work truck. It was something they have done many times before but this time the rotor got stuck.

Wilkinson somehow got out and was taken to the hospital. He had a punctured lung, broken ribs and a separated shoulder, according to KCRA. However, he wasn’t sure how he managed to get himself out. Then he realized he had surveillance cameras and saw his son, Dalin Wilkinson, 15, who lifted the truck up just enough to roll him out.

Wilkinson said he slid his body under the truck and hit the rotor but had a hard time getting a good angle. Once he hit the rotor, it popped off and the truck fell, according to KCRA. Wilkinson said he was squished and couldn’t talk.

Dalin had to think fast after his father got stuck underneath the truck, according to the Today Show. Wilkinson said that his son is his hero.
