Wanted Parma man arrested after leading Brook Park, Cleveland police on foot chase

BROOK PARK, Ohio – A wanted Parma man, 48, was arrested at about 4 p.m. Nov. 21 after he ran from police.

The man’s pickup truck ran out of gas at Brookpark and Smith roads and was blocking traffic. By the time police arrived, the man had somehow moved the truck into the parking lot of Budget Heating and Air Conditioning on Brookpark.

Police questioned man, who was short with his answers. He didn’t want to talk. Police, after identifying the man, discovered that several law enforcement agencies had issued warrants for his arrest.

The man started walking toward a building in the parking lot. Police called him over but he ignored them. The owner of Budget Heating and Air Conditioning stepped out of the building and handed the man a can of gas. The man, carrying the gas can, walked away from police.

When police ordered the man to stop, the man dropped the gas and ran. Police ran after him, warning that they would tase him if he didn’t stop. The man continuing running through a brushy area and toward railroad tracks.

Police discharged their Taser, but only one probe hit the man’s coat. He kept running and reached the railroad tracks. The officer sprained his ankle as he ran up a hill toward the tracks.

The man ran north on the railroad tracks. With police in pursuit, he ran down a hill, through more brush and into the rear parking lot of Lakewood Supply Co. on West 150th Street. Brook Park and Cleveland police surrounded him.

The man tried to hide between concrete blocks in the parking lot. Police again warned the man they would tase him if he didn’t stand up. He surrendered.
