A 26-year-old Blue Island motorist fell from the Dan Ryan Expressway early Saturday and died after stopping near a four-car crash, Illinois State Police say.

At 1:58 a.m., David Ponce De Leon stopped his car on the right shoulder of I-94 at 26th Street and had been standing near the car’s passenger side, Illinois State Police spokesperson Josh Korando and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Another car then drove close by, and the man fell from the overpass, Korando added.

De Leon was dead on the scene and it was not clear what made the man fall but investigations are ongoing, police said.

There were no medical transports related to the four-car crash that had led the man to pull over, Chicago Fire spokesperson Juan Hernandez said.
