NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio –

OVI: Country Club Boulevard

Officers at about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 arrested a man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after a witness said the man nearly struck his car. The witness then followed the suspect while keeping police updated on his location.

The caller said the suspect drove off the road on Kennedy Ridge Extension, possibly struck a utility pole, drove back onto the roadway, turned into a hotel parking lot on Country Club Boulevard, where he got out of his car and urinated, then got back into his car, and drove down Country Club Boulevard to Great Northern Mall. Officers stopped the suspect as he attempted to make a U-turn at a mall parking lot entrance, according to a police report.

The witness said he called the police department after the suspect nearly backed into his car on Victoria Lane after the suspect drove off the roadway and then backed up.

Officers said the suspect smelled of an alcoholic beverage, slurred his speech, and had difficulty maintaining his balance. He said he had one beer earlier in the day.

Based on his performance on field sobriety tests, police officers arrested the man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The suspect refused to take an alcohol breath test, so his license was immediately placed under a one-year administrative license suspension, according to the police report.

In addition to the OVI charge, officers added a weaving citation.

Police officers found damage to the front of the suspect’s car, but they could not determine if the damage was fresh.
