Wabash Valley Road Runners close out year with ‘Clothe-a-Child’ fundraiser

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Hundreds of people braved the cold Saturday morning to help the Wabash Valley Roadrunners end their year on a high note– and to help give back to the community.

The organization hosted their annual “Christmas in the Park,” event, which included three races and over 170 participants. Race director Brad Chaney said half of the proceeds will go to the Noon Optimist’s “Clothe a Child” program.

“We have a six-race series that starts in April and ends with our race in Christmas in the park every year,” he said. “It just allows us to give back to the running community and the walking community, it allows them to come out and participate in something to kick off the Christmas season.”

Saturday included a half-mile race, a 3K race and a 5K run/walk. Chaney said it helped close out a strong 2022 for the club, which saw increased numbers after the pandemic stunted participation the last two years.

“Obviously with the last couple of years, numbers have been down a little bit. We’ve had a lot of people come out for our races this year,” he said.

The six-race slate for next year will start in the Spring. Chaney said those interested in registering for an event can find more information on their website.
