SCHERTZ, Texas – A man was arrested after his mother was found with “obvious signs of neglect” during an exam at a hospital, according to Schertz police.

At approximately 12:51 a.m., the Schertz Police Department met with hospital staff and Adult Protective Services in reference to an 87-year-old woman.

A day before, Schertz EMS was called for a report of a fall. The woman was then taken to an area hospital and during an exam, signs of abuse were found by medical staff.

The woman lives with her son, Alan Sones, who is the primary caregiver, in the 100 block of Peach Lane.

Detectives struggled getting in contact with Sones and say it took them hours to reach him.

Sones gave permission for the detectives to take photos of his mother’s room and admitted to being the caretaker.

Due to the nature of the offense, an arrest warrant was issued.

Sones was placed into custody without incident for the charge of Injury to Child, Elderly, or Disabled Individual, a first-degree felony.
