GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The Green Bay Metro Fire Department welcomed people to Station 2 on Saturday to show off its new historic display.
The display includes a variety of items including tactical gear, alarm boxes, badges and other tools. The items date back to the 1910s.
Captain David Siegel wrote a book about the early history of the department in 2016. He says that is when things started moving towards the display.
“We began a collection that was piling up,” said Siegel, who is the president of the Green Bay Firefighters Historic Preservation Foundation. “We were aware of things out in the community. We eventually reached a point where we can have a display.”
The display is temporary, but the goal is to have a permanent display when a new fire station is built.
City officials are currently evaluating the potential for a new station.
Siegel says the current display can be seen by appointment.
