NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Seven firefighters and two civilians were injured in a five-alarm West Harlem fire early Saturday morning, the FDNY said.

The fire broke out on the sixth story of a six-floor apartment building on West 141st Street near Broadway just after 1:30 a.m. and was not brought under control until about 6 a.m.

According to officials, 198 firefighters and EMS from 44 units responded to the blaze.

A sixth-floor resident told 1010 WINS she didn’t hear any fire alarms in the hallway, raising questions about whether the tragedy was exacerbated by poor fire safety equipment in the building.

The Red Cross is providing food, relief items, health assistance, emotional support and temporary housing for the 37 families displaced by the fire.

There were 109 people impacted across those 37 families, according to the Red Cross.
