Dodgers Rumors: NL West Rival Looking to Poach Trea Turner
The Trea Turner sweepstakes are getting a little more heated. According to the Atheltic, Dodgers rival San Diego Padres have met with the two-time All-Star twice ahead of the upcoming Winter Meetings in San Diego. Padres writer for the Athletic Dennis Lin announced on Friday.

Lin said he is unsure where the two sides met, but there seems to be some interest among the two since this is the second time they met in person.
The teams in on Turner are the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and the Dodgers (who are possibly last on the list).
The Padres have come in out of nowhere. San Diego drafted Trea in the first round with the 13th overall pick in the 2014 MLB draft. He never played for the Padres as he was sent away to the Washington Nationals in a three-team trade in 2015.
According to the Atheltic’s Ken Rosenthal, Padres general manager A.J. Preller says he “has pretty much coveted [Turner] ever since.”
Trea has been considered by many as the best free agent this off-season in a free-agent class that is loaded with superstars.
The Dodgers have slowly dissipated in the Turner sweepstakes. There has yet to be any traction toward any talks between the Boys in Blue and Trea.
It would be nice to bring back Trea; he had a career year and is only 29 years old, but L.A. might look to spend that money elsewhere.
The Padres and Preller are already paying two guys over $300 million in Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr, but they’ve never been shy in paying superstar talent.
The market is hot for Trea; we’ll see who ends up landing the speedy shortstop.
If the Padres open the checkbook for Turner and the Dodgers decide Lux is the answer at short and don’t succeed with Verlander, then the Padres move to the top of the West going forward
I think they are already the better team right now.
They Padres also have a much better Manager who does more with less, and knows how to call a game.
If Trea has met with the Padres twice and showing interest, he is not all east coast bias as made out to be. Why the Dodgers are not putting something together and pushing to keep The Big Three as the core for a dynasty to be made. I’m sure the FO can get creative in deferred payments like Mookie’s and Freddie’s contracts. With 100M coming off the books, and being creative in negotiations, the Dodgers can pay good money to Trea stay under the CBT, and still fill other positions with quality talent. The Dodgers would have elite talent at the top of the lineup teaching the other athletic and hungry young guns coming in.
I agree with kirk Douglas lyons, the Padres have a much better manager that the Dodgers. Also, how did they let Tyler Anderson go? We need at least two good pitchers, like Verlander and Rodon, and a solid, experienced shortstop. And we also let relief pitcher Martin go, too?
Yep, right now, the Padres have a better team.
The writer didn’t mention Jaun sotos fat payday also,San Diego has unlimited funds,wish the dodgers would stop letting players slip away specially our pitchers, should of paid Tyler Anderson and reliever Jake two decent hands let go for next to nothing , don’t want to see Trea leave but at the end of the day it’s business,,,,
