Nintendo has apologised for the state that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have launched in.

While the latest games in the series were praised for moving in a less linear approach through its open-world, there has been a huge backlash against their low-quality graphics and extremely poor performance issues, especially considering Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time.

An update was issued this week that fixed a music issue and some other small bugs, with the patch notes containing an apology and a promise to fix the performance woes.

It reads: "We are aware that players may encounter issues that affect the games' performance. Our goal is always to give players a positive experience with our games, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

"We take the feedback from players seriously and are working on improvements to the games."

No timeframe has been given for these fixes, nor specific details about what will be improved and what won't, but fans will be glad to hear that the games won't remain in this current state forever.

Despite all of the issues with the games, Scarlet and Violet have sold incredibly well. With 10 million units (physical and digital) sold in just three days, the games set a record for the highest number of software sold on a Nintendo system within that period, whilst also being the UK's biggest physical launch.

In comparison, Pokémon Sword and Shield sold 6 million copies in their first week, and 25 million copies overall.

Games like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Platinum and Black 2 and White 2 have all sold less than 10 million copies in their lifetimes.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are out now on Nintendo Switch.
